A new trade....as if I didn't have enough on my plate

As most of you know, I work full time, am a wife and a new mommy of 1, have started my own photography business, and now I would like to start......SEWING! I should have learned while I was pregnant with Rylan, but I didn't. I'm going to start looking for some classes so that every time I find something cute on the internet, I don't have to call my talented and ultra crafty Momma! Any cute starter ideas you want to send me??? I'll keep you posted on my progress!

She's a little sassy toot sometimes, but we all still love her. Miss Priss will be her official nickname until she's 40! We went downtown in Lubbock while I was visiting last weekend and got her to cooperate for about 15 minutes...you might think that's bad, but in my experience with 2 year olds it was pretty darn good! Love you Hallie!

P.S. Thank you for all of the cute hand-me-downs....Rylan always looks so stylish thanks to you and your mommy! :)

They just moved back from Idaho and although they are still adjusting (especially to the heat again!), we are all super excited that they are BACK! Yes people...it was almost 2 months ago, but life is busy! I'm so far behind on blogging and I am not keeping up my goal/promise (see a couple posts down)! But I am still trying....counts for something right?

Now onto my little sweetie and most favorite model....

New paint colors!

As most of you know, we are building a house in Arcadia. At one point I wanted everything new...wanted to totally re-do everything because I feel like my style has changed so much. Plus I am just absolutely ready to have my own stuff! We have had almost everything hand-me-down or Target bought since we have been married and I want to branch out on my own now! However, I recently read an article on Inspired Room blog about "using what you have" to decorate. It really hit home...I figure what's the best way to change it up, but use the same stuff you already have? PAINT!!! We went to Sherwin Williams today and finalized the wall paint colors (below). We chose latte for most of the house and then contented (a blue/green color with grays...looks a little different than in the picture) will be our bathroom and laundry room color, while dovetail (a nice gray) will be the guest room. Our builder only let us choose 1 color. We actually paid to add the other two. For me it still wasn't enough so we plan on doing Rylan's room and the powder room ourselves.

I'll be posting pictures of my DIY projects and home decorating as we get to them during the move. Stay tuned! I'm sure there will be lots of trial and error :)

So for Mother's Day, my wonderful husband bought me and IPad 2 and I have really really enjoyed it. I usually sit there every evening after Rylan goes to bed, ignoring him and playing on that thing! Anyway, since I have such easy access to the internet now, I have become ADDICTED to way too many blogs. I've always been a fan of certain ones but mainly they were photogs blogs and I would check them out to get inspiration and such. So...my 2 favs of the moment are (check them out...but beware because you just might become addicted too)

Anyway, long story short...these 2 blogs have 1 thing in common. They are both written by strong, business women who are also creative and fun moms. I love how they mix their life stories with the information they want to provide on their blogs. I'm now setting a goal of mine to make my blog more like that. I love reading their new posts...not just looking at their amazing pictures. I want people to become ADDICTED to me and want to read all about my crazy life and who knows...maybe some of you can relate and we won't all feel so alone in this big world! Hopefully, I can committ and keep my goal and I look forward to hearing from you too!

And what is a blog post without a few pictures....here are some of my little monkey! She's getting so big and we love everything about her! Justin and I are in awe :)

I haven't really blogged too many pictures of Rylan on here. Mainly, I just post those to facebook for family and friends but here are a few of her 6 month pictures I took and then some family pictures that a friend of mine took and I edited. I'm grateful that my little one loves me so much, but she doesn't like to smile for anyone else with a camera! I can't really complain though...my little monkey is finally feeling a lot better and getting over all of the sickness and ear infections that winter gave us. She's full of energy, playing peek-a-boo, laughing, and army crawling everywhere. Time sure does fly and I thank God every day for my little wonder! (p.s. I was in a hurry loading these so they are super grainy)

This is a great picture to show what life is like in the Small household now-a-days. Rylan is 16 weeks old and we spend most of our time trying to get her to look at us and talk and cleaning up drool off of everything! And I'm loving every minute of it! She is such a good baby...sleeps through the night, smiles when I walk into the room, and I swear she never cries! The daycare teachers all want to take her home with them!

My Belly Shots

I wasn't too excited about having my picture taken when I don't feel pretty and I feel bloated and fat, but we decided to have a few belly shots done so that we can look back and show our daughter..."this is what mommy looked like when I was pregnant with you!" We got in a few good ones in spite of the cloudy, rainy weather last Saturday evening.

My sister and her 3 kids came to visit us in OKC last weekend. It was so good to see everyone because they are growing up way too fast....we played checkers and UNO, went to the zoo, played on a slip-n-slide in the backyard, Cade ate only pizza the entire trip (hehe), and the kids pretty much were bored the whole time because "Aunt Miranda has NO TOYS! at her house." (I guess that will be changing shortly, huh?) Usually I can entertain with my goofiness, but being pregnant drains my energy and stamina so that was out of the question too. Anyway, besides a minor Jace meltdown on picture day, I think we got some cute shots. I am going to be a nice aunt though and not post all of the frowny faces...only the good ones! :) We'll use the others in their graduation
slideshow.

Our Little Girl's Nursery

We still have a few last touches to add to the nursery, but I thought I would share what we've done so far. This room was our office/junk room and now it is the cutest room for our little baby to enjoy! It is very small, but I think it's the perfect size for now. Hope you guys think it's as cute as I do and here are a few tid bits of information about it.

1. Yes, we are keeping the baby's name a secret until she arrives, but as you can see the name does start with an "R"

2. The 2 empty picture frames are size 16x20 and they will be filled with 2 of her newborn pictures.

3. My dad handmade the frames and the "R" and my mom painted them for me! What talented parents I have!!

4. We still need to add curtains to the room...another job my mom has so graciously offered to take on.

5. The bow hangers were also made by my mom and we haven't gone too crazy...a lot of the clothes and shoes that fill the closet were graciously donated by my sister and niece, Hallie, since she has now outgrown them. We are still working on closet organization--Daddy is going to make us a second bar to fit all of the clothes... :)

6. We are so excited for our new little addition to be here. I feel her move more and more every day and she is one strong cookie! I'm counting down the days until September 20th!! :)

We met up downtown with some old friends and their little boy who just turned 2. He was soooo cute, but he wasn't real sure about smiling for my camera. I even used some of my best jokes and he didn't even flinch....haha :) I still think we got some great pictures to capture the memories though!

As most of my blog followers know, Justin and I are expecting our first baby in September-- and it's a GIRL!! Therefore my last booking will be August 7th for a wedding and I will be on maternity leave until January 2011 for my photography business. So hurry up and book now!!!! Also, there will be some other fun changes happening when I am back to business in 2011. I am re-branding, adding a website, and there will be some minor price changes...another reason to BOOK NOW!! :) Keep checking the blog for more updates--- Now with any good photographer's blog, it isn't a good post unless there is a picture, so here is a random one to enjoy... :)

Last Saturday, I helped out an Edmond photographer, Brad Myers, with a wedding. It was my first ever so I was super nervous. Thank goodness Brad knew what he was doing and it was a small, laid back wedding. I think I got some pretty good shots and was happy with a lot of the pictures!

There was someone not at the Small family Christmas this year. Even though I didn't know Justin's grandpa, J.W., very long, I knew he was a great man. He always greeted you like you were the most exciting person in the world to walk through his door. That was one of the things I will always remember about him. He always had a camera in his hand and was known as the family photographer...all I can say is that I have big shoes to fill at all of the family gatherings from now on, well me and Lisa. :) I know for a fact that he will be missed dearly by many many people. Please keep the Small family in your prayers!

Even though it was December, it ended up being a really nice day and it was still a really cool place to shoot even though everything was pretty much dead for the winter. One of my Christmas presents to my parents this year was to take recent pictures of all of their grandkids. So we all loaded up and went over to Loop, ISD and took a few pictures. Friday, I went over to a friend's house to take pictures of her little girl. Raleigh is about 9 months old and she was too cute to handle! Race for the Cure

Today was the annual OKC Race for the Cure....it was freezing outside this morning and I ran horrible, but it was such a motivation to see 16,000 people out there for one goal! Glad I was able to participate!!

One Year

So our 1 year anniversary was last Sunday. Work has been super busy so I am just now getting around to blogging about it. We met up with some good friends on Saturday night and had a few drinks...I was reminded really quickly that I was married and boring after the first 15 minutes in the place we went...haha! Anyway, Sunday we had so much stuff to do, but we took a few minutes to have some of our wedding cake....let's just say that it sounded better than it tasted after being frozen for a year...I was super dissappointed. However, we were trying to be good and follow the "tradition" and get each other something "paper" for the 1 year. Let's see how long the tradition lasts because it was really hard! :) (By the way, I got a spa gift certificate and he got an OU painting that I'm going to try and get signed by all of the Heisman winners)

Football Fun

Last weekend we went to Texas for the football game. My dad and brother-in-law both coach 6-Man football, so we drove down to watch them face-off. Man, it was a nail-biter. Wellman scored with 20 seconds left to win by 4 points. Here are some fun pics from the night...

Hallie was born last Friday and now I am an Aunt to 5 little ones...Cade, Sydney, Jace, Addison, and Hallie. My sister had her first girl and third child and she was 8 lbs 11 oz. I am going home in July and can't wait to see her and hold her.....and also do my first newborn shoot! Can't wait :)

Leap of Faith

As you all know I recently have taken a few steps toward my dream of being a photographer. It was really out of my comfort zone to just get out there and get started, but I finally took the leap and it is starting to pay off. I signed up for a class, which led to another class. I started a blog and offered free sessions to all of my friends and family, which turned into about 10 unofficial bookings. And today I had the greatest day....a professional photographer here in OKC/Edmond area (http://www.bradmyersphotography.com/) has agreed to let me sort of intern with him. We are currently working out the details and he is going to show me the ropes and let me tag along for different photo shoots and weddings! For starters I will be holding the flash and fetching him coffee...haha but then he said that I can jump behind the camera whenever I'm ready. I am just so excited and can't wait....I can't believe it took me this long to get off the bench and get in the game. Anyway, hopefully soon I will be blogging about all of the great things I learned and can show you how my photography has grown! So a little tid bit of advice for all of you....JUST GO FOR IT!!

Sunday Bicycle Ride

So Justin and I have been really really busy lately, but we've managed to find time for our relaxing weekly bicycle ride around Lake Hefner. Last Sunday, I took my camera and made Justin stop early so that I could snap some pictures of the gorgeous sunset. Anyway, I just had to share! So speaking of our bicycle ride, Justin and I have started our own Biggest Loser Contest. We each have goal weights and weigh in every Monday. It has been 2 weeks and we have both lost some weight...of course I am winning, but I have to give credit to my CHK Boot Camp I just finished today! :) Our final weigh-in is July 24th. We have a wedding that we are going to on the 25th to debut our new and improved bodies. Hopefully in about 7 weeks I will blog a before and after picture for both of us! Stay tuned.....

The Start-Up

Justin and I are constantly thinking up our new start-up business ideas to get out of the rat race and live the good life. I actually started this blog right after we got married to post pictures and such, but never posted anything and never let anyone know it was out there. However, the other night we were coming up with our random ideas and I thought that some of our friends and family would like to follow us along on our journey to fame and fortune! Haha --
So a quick rundown on what's going on with us: I am about 4 weeks in to my first photography class and loving it. Hopefully it will be my business one day...I mean who can say that they actually LOVE what they do? Well that would be me if everything goes well. Justin is a work-a-holic. I think he got that from growing up on a farm, but sometimes I think his 12 hour days need to be a little shorter. We're trying to get a vacation together for July so hopefully that will be a good break...especially since we haven't taken one since our honeymoon in October. Together in April we ran our first marathon TOGETHER...Justin's first and my third. We have many plans to do more, but absolutely, positively, NOT TOGETHER!
Anyway, hope that everyone will enjoy a daily dose of the Small family from OKC...so everyone come back to visit....who knows we might just surprise ya!
